Stem Cell Collection Day - What a Surprise!!!

Continued from earlier...

9:00 am – Nurse Practictoner came to just ask questions about how he was feeling in general.  Don told her about his back pain yesterday – it was pretty bad at times.  She told him to take his pain medicine if he needed to – they surely don’t want him to be in pain.  It was a lot better today.  The Nurse said it was probably caused by the Neupogen (growth factor shots).
Got all the blood work back and because his white blood cell counts were so high he was scheduled for the stem cell collection TODAY – what a surprise!!! We weren’t expecting this to happen until Tuesday or Wednesday.
After waiting for quite awhile they came to get Don and the collection started at 12:50 pm.  The collection took about 2 hours – which was much shorter than the time given to us before that it could possibly take 4-6 hours.
We won’t know until tomorrow when they run the stem cell count check to find out if they indeed were able to collect what they need – if they didn’t it’s possible he would have to go back for another collection but our Nurse Chris indicated that rarely happens.
We returned to HIPOP after the collection and Don’s red blood count was lower than they wanted so he had to have a transfusion – 1 ½ hours.   After that was done and his temperature checked we were free to go back to our place.  This was almost a 12 hour day so needless to say we are both exhausted – of course him more than me.
I did fix dinner – he rested – on couch now watching the PATS and had his Ben and Jerrys – so he’s a happy camper right now – a tired happy camper!!
Until tomorrow………..
Love you all!
Don & Muffin
